3D printed toys - materials and safety....

Many of you have asked me about the safety, and health risks involved with 3D printed toys.

There are some makers who like myself use high grade PLA - (Polylactic Acid) - which is a plant based, biodegradable plastic which is made from renewable resources, and there are some that use other plastics such as Nylon, ABS, PETG etc..

The big difference here, is that PLA is a BODYSAFE plastic - that is if it gets under the skin, it will break down harmlessly and not cause problems unlike the alternative materials:

  • Nylon
  • ABS
  • PETG and
  • ASA

are wonderful materials, but they are not BODY SAFE!

Body safe refers to the material being left in the body without risking issues to the person involved.

Regardless of what any maker tells you! Your health and safety is just not worth the risk.

Why is this so important?

Say you are using a vampire paddle, or scratching toy like Claws or our Shredders etc... Every time you run those toys over skin, or impact with them, there is the slight chance that micro particles are left on or under the skin.

IF you get micro particles of PLA under your skin, then it will simply break down in the body, and be expelled as waste without incident.

Micro particles of Nylon? ABS? PETG or ASA? They stay there as they do not break down in the body safely, and as a result can cause issues over time.

PLEASE ensure you check what products your toy maker is using, and if they are providing anything that has the remotest possibility of breaking the skin, ensure that its PLA!

How do you protect your toys? To ensure their longevity?

Clean all your toys with proper TOY CLEANER and a dry lint free cloth or alcohol wipes. IF there is blood or other bodily fluids on your toys, ensure that they are sanitised.

Remember that PLA while perfect for kink toys, is hydroscopic - it will absorb excess fluids and should not be washed in dish washers, or tubs of water etc - ALWAYS use a lint free cloth and toy cleaner or alcohol wipes! Also keep them cool - leaving a 3d printed toy on the dashboard of your car etc is not great as the plastic can warp at 60 degrees Celsius (140 Fahrenheit) or higher! Keep them in a bag, in your back seat or boot for safest transport!

Be safe and always remember:

May the kink be with YOU!
